In an inspiring effort to break down the traditional silos of art, Boise State is hosting the School of the Arts Showcase on March 27-28, 2025, as part of Treefort at Boise State. This two-day event promises a genuine look at the creative spirit thriving both on campus and in the local community. This isn’t just another art event; it’s a melting pot of visual art, music, performance, film and interactive experiences that invite visitors to engage with the creative process.
Held at the Center for the Visual Arts, the Showcase includes several Blue Galleries exhibitions that blur the lines between faculty and student artistry. The 2025 Biennial Faculty Exhibition and the Annual Student Juried Exhibition allow attendees to see the impressive range of talent on display, while Janet Biggs’ thought-provoking work, Imagination and Desire in a Northern Landscape, adds a unique narrative about the force of nature and resilience.
The showcase goes beyond static displays. In one area of the building, live performances by Boise State Music students offer an acoustic journey—from a clarinet trio that kicks off the day to a string quartet that sets a reflective mood on the second day. The Stein Luminary opens its doors to offer a lively hub where interactive activities, short films and time-based art presentations create a hands-on experience. Whether drawn to a life-sized CLUE game or an intimate talkback session following a student film, the event is designed to spark conversations and cross-disciplinary connections.
One of the event’s most exciting features is StoryNight@BoiseState, a storytelling series developed in collaboration with StoryFort and the Department of English Literature. Under the theme Master and Counter Narratives: Same Facts—Different Stories, storytellers will share personal narratives that encourage us to examine familiar stories from unexpected angles. Each presentation is followed by a brief talkback, making the experience as much about conversation as it is about performance.
Sue Latta, Lecturer in the School of the Arts and Lead of the Arts Entrepreneurship program sums up the spirit of the showcase perfectly:
“The School of the Arts Showcase was inspired by attending a variety of showcases and realizing the value of having a single event that brings together all of our disciplines. It’s a chance for students to share their work with each other and the public, fostering cross-disciplinary connections and celebrating the range of creative talent within our school. It’s about visibility, collaboration and creating an event that highlights the incredible work happening across the School of the Arts.”
This event isn’t just for those deeply rooted in the art world—it’s an open invitation for anyone curious about the magic that happens when diverse creative minds come together. Free to the public and with no Treefort wristband required, the showcase is a beacon of community engagement and creative energy, inviting Boise locals and visitors alike to experience art in its most dynamic and interactive form.
For those looking to immerse themselves in an event that truly defies boundaries, the School of the Arts Showcase offers an experience as authentic and varied as the creative community it celebrates.
